HEADLINE: EPT London Sees Record-Breaking Field

The poker world just seems to grow and now, London is feeling the effects of the booming industry.

Day 1A of the EPT London Main Event attracted a whopping 339 players, with Day 1B drawing an even bigger field, making the EPT London the largest live poker tournament ever held on British soil. Players all arrived at the Hilton Metropole hotel, with only 146 of the 339 surviving the first day of play.

Notable players who survived include Greg Raymer, John Juanda, Barry Shulman, Arnaud Mattern, Allen Cunningham, and Vanessa Rousso. Big names who were not as successful included Vanessa Selbst, Carlos Mortensen, Erik Seidel and Roland de Wolfe.

Finishing Day 1A as the chip leader was American Soheb Porbandarwala, with 218,600 in chips, which was more than 30,000 to the player in second place with blinds still at 500-1,000. Among the other well-stacked players now playing in Day 1B include 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event champion Barry Shulman and 2004 WSOP Main Event winner Greg Raymer.

Day 1B had an overwhelming response with 848 players ramping up the prize pool to over £4 million. Play continues until the end of the ninth level of tonight, with surviving players from both EPT London starting flights to merge and resume play at noon local time tomorrow. A winner for the £5,000 buy-in tournament will be crowned on October 4th.

Meanwhile, young poker sensation Annette Obrestad won the £5,000 heads-up event after playing sixteen heads-up games, which earned her the title as well as £120,000.
