HEADLINE: Obama Hearing Calls for Legalized Online Poker
Body:
With a professed poker player as Commander-in-Chief it appears that American online poker players think they’ve got a chance at having their request for a legalized and regulated industry might have taken a huge step forward.
The Citizen’s Briefing Book at Change.gov, the official website of President-elect Barack Obama, encourages American citizens to “share your ideas on any issue facing the new administration, then rate or comment on other ideas.” One of the more popular ideas, based on the site’s rating system and comments made by users, has been to “Boost America’s Economy with Legal Online Poker”.
The topic, created by user “AAHue”, reads “Let online poker players in the United States play legally and without fear of prosecution. Reform the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act to exempt poker, a game of skill, from the law. Boost the economy by letting American companies and Ameican players make money and pay taxes instead of sending online poker businesses offshore. Protect online poker players by regulating the industry to ensure that no one is ever cheated.”
Since the topic was created on Monday afternoon over 1,000 people have posted a response and most seem supportive of a regulated U.S. market. The topic, ranked as high as #2, has also had over 30,000 people provide a “Vote Up” for the suggestion. The entire topic, with all responses, can be read here.
BLUFF Magazine encourages all poker players to sign-up for a Change.gov account and let their voice be heard by the Obama Transition Team.
