HEADLINE: 2007 US Poker Championship

The 2007 US Poker Championship was held at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 17 through October 6, 2007. The Championship is a main annual event in the World Poker Tour (WPT). Adam Gerber, a businessman from Morristown, New Jersey took the title and more than $600,000. He also won a gold bracelet and a Rolex watch. Right before the 2007 US Poker Championship, Gerber was the runner up at another WPT event, the Borgata Poker Open, where he banked almost a quarter of a million dollars for a mere $5,000 buy-in.

Gerber, who is also an avid golfer, says he doesn't play poker online and doesn't play cash games; just tournaments. Since he already owns his own business, he doesn't plan to quit his day job but will use his poker winnings to work on the house he shares with his wife and kids.

The 2007 US Poker Championship is a series of poker tournaments with the last one being a $10,000 No Limit Texas Holdem tournament. Although the US Poker Championship is usually televised by ESPN, the 2007 US Poker Championship wasn't because ESPN has dropped all non-WSOP poker play from its line-up. However, several online poker sites covered the tournament with almost play by play statistics and it is still considered a very prestigious tournament.

Overall attendance was down for the 2007 US Poker Championship; however, 164 players turned out to play. The US Poker Championship has been held since 1996 with more than a couple of big name poker players coming out the winners. Daniel Negreanu won the championship in 1999 and Men Nguyen won in 2001; both of these are considered to be two of the world's greatest poker players and both have won numerous poker tournaments. One of the perks of this tournament is that players are able to choose their game from among the following: Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud, and/or Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo.
