Coming to Casinos
Body:
Soon, poker players
who want to play poker in casinos will not have to actually head
to the poker room
to take a seat.
Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) has approved a commercial
version of Progressive Gaming International's (PGI) World Series
of Poker Peer to Peer Texas
Hold’em game. The game will allow players to play poker
anywhere a terminal is located against real players who also are
playing in casinos online.
The company described its product this way:
World Series of Poker Peer to Peer Texas
Hold'em offers many of the popular features of 'Internet style'
poker, including
cashless account-based wagering, the option to play multiple tables/tournaments
at the same time, and the ability for a player to view their account
history, a summary of recently-played games, and even a statistical
breakdown of their play.
This multiplayer poker
system is designed to allow patrons to compete against other players
over a real-time, secure intranet server, allowing operators to
offer an unlimited number of tables and variety of configurations
and limits while tracking play and delivering promotions through
their existing player rewards system.
Poker players will
no longer need to be physically located at a poker table, as they
will be able to play World Series of Poker Peer to Peer Texas
Hold'em at a variety of locations within a casino, including
at bars, restaurants, or lounges, against players located at the
same site or across multiple properties.
PGI also plans on introducing a portable version of the game,
but has not yet submitted this version to GLI.
An employee of PGI confirmed that the game will be rolled out
in about three months, but could not release any details as to
where it will be installed, or if it will be installed in multiple
locations at first.
PGI has a limited exclusive license agreement with Harrah's Licensing
Company, LLC, an affiliate of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. PGI
was granted the right to develop the WSOP brand as a systems-based
gaming product. The product could appear in casinos not owned
by Harrah’s. This product will also allow casinos without
a card room to offer poker.
GLI is a leader in testing and approving the security and fairness
of casino games that companies invent. It’s the gaming regulatory
lab for substantially all American Indian casinos, multiple states
in North America (Nevada included), most riverboat casinos, and
several gaming venues across Canada, as well as a variety of international
jurisdictions throughout Europe, South America, and Asia.
