HEADLINE: Lady Luck shines on Surrey resident

Lady Luck was on Sarah Maxine Farber’s side during British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s 3rd Annual Women’s Poker Classic this past weekend. Farber knew when to hold’em and when to fold’em to win the top prize of $33,750, plus a seat into the World Series of Poker Ladies No Limit Hold’Em World Championship in Las Vegas.

“Patience is a virtue,” quoted Farber of Surrey, BC, after knocking out 269 other women to reach first place after 15.5 hours of play in the No Limit Texas Hold‘Em Main Event on February 24.

Farber burst into tears of joy when she secured her final winning hand of pocket aces. This was her first major tournament win and she plans to help her kids with her winnings.

Held at Cascades Casino in Langley, the tournament raised close to $40,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region.

“I want to thank each and every one of the players who made this event possible. Players came from as far away as Pennsylvania, Nunavut and Tennessee to try their hand at poker and to raise an impressive $40,000 for breast cancer research,” stated Darryl Schiewe, British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s Vice President of Casino Gaming. “Congratulations to all for making the Women’s Poker Classic another success.”

The 3rd Annual Women’s Poker Classic was held February 21 to 24 and featured three Texas Hold’Em events with 767 participants for a total prize pool of $229,785.
