HEADLINE: Two Top Women Poker Players at WPT
Final Table for The First Time Ever
Body:
If anyone ever had a doubt that women poker
players have really arrived on the scene and proved their equality
in the game,
it is being erased by the first ever appearance of two superstar
women poker players at a WORLD POKER TOUR (WPT) Final Table at
Foxwoods Casino Resort Thursday night. Cash game diva Mini Tran
stands in second place in the chip count going into the finale
and Kathy Liebert, who has four previous WPT final table appearances
and a World Series bracelet, is in the third spot.
If either of them win, it will mark the first time a woman has
won a WPT open tournament
(non invitational). Between these two women, they have amassed
millions in prize money and either stands to make millions more
if she bests all the five other remaining players in the tournament
that started with 608. First prize is $1,717,194; second place
is $904,389.
What's even more interesting is that these two have a fierce
rivalry!
“This is a watershed moment in poker and the WPT,”
said WPT founder and CEO Steve Lipscomb. “It shows how far
the game has come in five short years that women, though smaller
in number, are proving that they are the total equals of their
male counterparts. This will be an awesome final table.”
