Online poker sites
are garnering attention from the US government in what’s
being seen as a flagrant display of defiance against advertising
restrictions imposed on the online poker industry. The promotion
of online poker sites in plain view of the U.S. public has caught
Uncle Sam’s attention.
According to an article published by the New York Post, the U.S.
Justice Department has targeted several prominent media firms
for accepting advertising from the online gambling industry --
notably online poker.
Large online poker company’s, like the one endorsed by
Doyle Brunson -- DoylesRoom.com -- have found clever ways to advertise
and surpass the legality issues imposed on the poker industry.
The New York Post said that companies like DoylesRoom.com advertise
a free poker site, often ending in dot-net and composed of free
poker tips, strategies and poker games -- which ultimately prompts
visitors to play poker at their real money poker website -- the
latter ending in .com.
The poker industry, which is legal elsewhere overseas, has captured
the interest of most Americans, and is now one the most popular
activities on the internet. As an example, Doyle’s Poker
Room guarantees over 60 tournaments per day and hosts poker games
to thousands of people from around the World everyday. The need
for a trip to Vegas, Atlantic City or your local poker room have
virtually vanished due to the online pokers’ popularity
in recent times.
Media companies are finding it more and more difficult to resist
the revenue poker company’s -- specifically online
poker rooms -- bring to the table.
