The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), the largest
online poker tournament in the world, is coming back to Poker
Stars, this time with a main event guarantee of $2.5 million.
The two week long tournament featuring Hold’em,
Omaha, and Stud
events, begins September 4th, 2005 at 4:30 p.m. EST. Event #1
is a $500 + $30 buy-in no-limit Hold’em tournament with
a guaranteed prize pool of $800,000. To date, 544 players are
already registered for the event with over two weeks still to
go before kick-off.
The level of prestige for winning a WCOOP continues to rise along
with the number of entrants in the fields. The total number of
entries for last year’s 12 day long tournament was 10,085,
second only in scope to the 2004 World Series of Poker (WSOP)
which drew 13,036. Similar to the WSOP, winners of WCOOP events
receive engraved gold bracelets along with their big prize money.
It is 33 days and counting to the 2005 WCOOP Main Event. Last
year’s Main Event drew a field of 843, and a prize pool
of $2.1 million. A player known as “Ragde” from Oslo,
Norway took home the $424,945 first prize, and the gold bracelet.
Poker Stars offers a variety of sitngo, and multi table satellites
for WCOOP events ranging from frequent player points freerolls
to $130.
