HEADLINE: Poker Reality Series Being Pitched to Networks

Body:
For fans of non-traditional poker programming, 2011 may have an interesting addition in store with the reality show “Young Guns,” which will follow the lives of four online poker pros in Los Angeles.

At the moment, Young Guns doesn’t yet have a network, but producers Ross Elliot and Darryl Silver are shopping it around and hoping to find a home that’s willing to take on a 13-episode run sometime in the next year. Most of the attention for the show thus far comes from a five-minute online “trailer” that has been making the rounds on YouTube.

The show would revolve around four poker pros, none of which are household names – at least yet. The four are Chris Sparks and Chris Jackson (both 23 years old), Jarran Joshu (24) and Seth Otterstad (27). Sparks is probably the best known of the four.

While the premise sounds interesting, it does remind many observers of a similar show that aired in 2009. In that year, the network G4 aired “2 Months $2 Million,” which focused on high-stakes cash game online players Emil Patel, Brian Roberts, Jay Rosenkrantz and Dani Stern. The stated goal of the four was to win $2 million in two months, though they ultimately “only” won $676,700 over the course of the show’s ten episodes. The show was not renewed for a second season.

Young Guns would reportedly differ from 2M2M in several ways. There would be no goal for the players on the show; instead, the show would just provide a snapshot into their lives as poker pros. In addition, the players would primarily focus on tournament play, rather than cash games.

While no network has yet committed to airing the series, the attention received by Young Guns so far makes it likely that it will be picked up somewhere, meaning there will probably be yet more poker programming on your television this coming year.
