HEADLINE: World Series of Poker 2010 schedule includes $50K Players Championship, more $1K events
Body:
"Something for everyone" were the words of World Series of Poker tournament director Jack Effel when describing the just released 2010 WSOP schedule, and he's right.
Like 2009, there will be 57 events at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. But there notable changes and improvements for next year -- here's the complete schedule (May 28-July 17) -- starting with the elimination of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event and the creation of its replacement, a $50,000 Players Championship.
The Players Championship will be an eight-game mixed event.
The final table will be all no-limit hold'em and will be televised by ESPN. Last year's $50K H.O.R.S.E. event was not on TV -- mostly because the WSOP ditched the no-limit final table -- and had its entries drop to 95 after 148 the first two years.
Top pros and TV viewers both should get their wishes here. It'll be an elite field, and the winner will receive recognition from his peers and the Chip Reese Trophy.
There still will be a $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, and $3,000 and $1,500 buy-ins, too. A $25,000 buy-in six-handed no-limit event also has been added.
Geared more to the budget of the average player, there will be six $1,000 buy-in events.
The $1K "Stimulus Special" attracked 6,012 entrants in 2009 and the WSOP has placed $1,000 events on each of the first four weekends in 2010, with the first one May 29.
All should have huge fields and the WSOP has expanded its tournament area in anticipation of record numbers again. The Amazon Room at the Rio will continue to serve as the main tournament area, but the Pavilion Ballroom also will be full of tables.
The main event will begin July 5 and wrap up with the determination of the November Nine on July 17. The final table will resume Nov. 6, with the champion being crowned Nov. 9.
