Snoop Dogg arrested, now free on bail: Snoop Dogg poker tournament
cancelled
Body:
Snoop Dogg was released on bail Thursday after a fracas he was
involved in at Heathrow Airport injured seven police officers,
his lawyers said.
After being detained overnight, the 34-year-old rapper was driven
away from the airport’s police station, police said, while
speaking on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.
They did not give details of five other men arrested with him.
“Snoop has been released on bail,” said his attorney,
Peter Binning. “He will return at a later date.”
London’s Metropolitan Police said officers responded late
Wednesday to reports of a disturbance involving 30 people at British
Airways’ first-class lounge.
The disturbance began after Snoop and his party were denied entry
into the lounge because some were flying first class while others
were flying economy class, said Richard Goodfellow, a spokesman
for British Airways.
“They became very rude and abusive to our staff and we
took the decision to ... refuse them travel,” Goodfellow
said.
When officers told the group they wouldn’t be allowed to
board their flight, “a number of the group became abusive
and pushed officers,” a police spokeswoman said on the force’s
customary condition of anonymity.
The six men were arrested on charges of “violent disorder
and affray” — or creating a brawl or disturbance —
and spent the night at London police stations. Police said all
those arrested were U.S. citizens in their 30s.
The injured police officers received cuts, bruises and other
minor injuries, the force said.
Meanwhile, the rapper was scheduled to host a single-day, $2
million prize pool, no-limit hold 'em tournament next Friday that
has since been cancelled.
The Rapper's Challenge Texas
Hold 'Em Tournament was supposed to take place on a casino
ship departing from the Port of Miami of May 5th, 2006. The event
was originally slated to occur the day Hurricane Wilma hit Miami.
Hold
'Em Productions, which puts on the tournament, claims on its
web site that The Big Easy ship lost it's certification. Now they
say this tournament will be held in November 2006 in the Bahamas,
a three day event without any specific dates.
